Where to buy Nyan Nyan Nyanko plushes (or other san-x plushes)

Since this seems to be a topic of interest I thought I'd do a post on it.

Unfortunately there isn't an easy answer to this. The best place to buy almost any Japanese collectible, including Nyan Nyan Nyanko plushes, is Yahoo! Japan auctions. They have a reasonably good selection of plushes and much lower prices than Western sites. There is also M-bok, another auction site, also with good prices but their selection isn't as good.

To purchase items from Yahoo! Japan auctions requires a shopping service (I like Noppin) which is a business that for a small fee will act as a middleman and help you purchase goods that are only available in Japan. All the steps required can be a little intimidating at first but it really isn't much more difficult than shopping on e-bay.

Speaking of e-bay...they're also a good place to find Nyanko plushes. There are usually only a few Nyan Nyan Nyanko plushes for sale at any given time but if you have patience and check daily you can find some great things. I would put eCrater in the same category as e-bay.

Then there's My Nyanko World. I haven't ordered from them so I can't give any sort of feedback as to what sort of business they are. The prices are high, for sure, but they look like they have a good selection. Anyone bought from them?

As a side note: When looking on Japanese sites for Nyan Nyan Nyanko plushes the search terms you want to use are "にゃんにゃんにゃんこ" (Nyan Nyan Nyanko) and " ぬいぐるみ" (plush).

Hope this helps! Good luck on your hunt for cute kitty plushes!

Cute Book~I Am Maru

Everyone loves Maru, right? (If you aren't versed in kitty Youtube celebrities check him out here.) This darling book provides photos and stories of Maru's life and rise to fame complete with behind the scenes tidbits from mugumugu (his owner and director/producer). It's bilingual so those of us who don't speak Japanese can enjoy it too.

I found this at my local library while trying to locate Soseki Natsume's I Am a Cat and I must say I enjoyed this more.

I Am Maru brings a smile to my face whenever I pick it up.

Really, it's adorable, go get it.

Find it on Amazon for $11.98. Or for free at your local library. If they don't have it tell them they should buy it.

Button Cookies

I stumbled across the first set of button cookies on google images and they inspired further exploration into the adorable world of cute cookies. These are from Bakerella (natch) and are supposed to be inspired by the Coraline film. (The book is better. Nobody captures an aura of fear like Neil Gaiman.)

 From Martha Stewart
With the whole stack of cookies tied together this is an extra charming take on the button cookie.

These were meant as favors from a Lalaloopsy party.

Happy First Day of Spring + felt boards!

I hope you all have a lovely spring equinox. It rained in the afternoon where I am but the sunset was beautiful! I took the opportunity to take a walk around the property. My ears still got nippy but spring is for sure in the air!

Moonstruck Country Critter animal tuffles

Chocolate truffles shaped like cute barnyard animals! I'm a big sample sale site girl although aside from  the Hello Kitty and Disney stuff that shows up from time to time they aren't exactly treasure chests of cuteness. However Rue-La-La has an Easter basket selection full of treats that I want to eat but shouldn't (GI issues. Chooclate = pain) and this was one of them.

I'm not sure if the chocolate is any good. However considering they're almost too cute to eat I'm not sure how much that matters.

Get them here for $27.90 for 6.  (This is an invite link. You have to be a member to buy from Rue-La-La.)

Cupcake bandages

cupcake bandages
The power of cuteness heals all wounds!

Cupcake bandages are way cuter than the bacon bandages all your friends are sporting. Wouldn't you rather have sweet, sugary cuteness on your cuts and scrapes than bits of dead pig?

Get them here for $6.14.

Orisinal is game site by artist Ferry Halim. It contains a large collection of simple (but entertaining) flash games with cute animals in muted colors. A perfect site to visit when you're bored on a Saturday afternoon. The screencap above is from a the game Monkeyslide which very simple but completely addictive.

Also scroll down to the miscellaneous section and send someone a (digitally) hand-picked bouquet of flowers!

SPÖKA lamp

Ikea SPÖKA night light

Ikea SPÖKA night light red

Ikea SPÖKA night light blue
These majorly adorable night lights are from IKEA (as you might of guessed by the name). They're round, and they have ears and faces which are, like, two of the major rules for making anything cute. Plus they apparently change colors when you press on their heads. The IKEA website says they're supposed to be ghosts but I prefer to think of them as little, colorful mice.

Unfortunately, they're only available in stores (and on Ebay with a bit of a markup).

As for the lack of updates lately. I have some big things happeing in my real life that have been and will be taking up some of my time and energy. I still want to update this site. However, updates will be as time allows and may be a little sparse.

Spring Chick Cupcakes

I've had these little guys sitting around waiting to be posted for a while. Since it's nearing spring and Easter I thought now would be a good time. These are inverted cupcakes decorated with coconut and since the recipe is from Martha Stewart these are probably as tasty as they are taking. (Hmm...I think I might be pushing the alliteration a little far there.)

Get the recipe here.

Giant Taveling Rubber Duck

"The Rubber Duck knows no frontiers, it doesn't discriminate people and doesn't have a political connotation. The friendly, floating Rubber Duck has healing properties: it can relieve mondial tensions as well as define them. The rubber duck is soft, friendly and suitable for all ages!" says artist Florentijin Hofman's site on his giant rubber duck.

Have you all seen this? It's a giant rubber duck that's been showing up in harbors around the world. I love this kind of thing. Something sweet and round and cute that makes everyone just a little happier just by seeing it. (Well, maybe not everyone but it certainly lifts my spirits.)
